Joined Ground
Joined Ground is a new series that explores the space where surfaces meet — where materials press against one another, overlap, and hold.
The works are built from layered blocks, worn textures, and stitched edges that feel both constructed and eroded. Nothing is fully blended; instead, each section retains its own character. The joins are visible. The seams matter. They carry the weight of time, pressure, and decision.
This series grew out of an interest in terrain and structure — not as landscape in the literal sense, but as memory and experience. The surfaces suggest ground that has been walked on, worked, or weathered. There is a quiet tension between softness and restraint, between what yields and what holds firm.
Colour is intentionally restrained, moving through cool blues, greys, and mineral tones. These hues slow the eye and invite longer looking, allowing texture and subtle variation to take precedence over gesture. Stitch-like marks and rough edges introduce a human presence, hinting at repair, connection, and the act of joining disparate parts into something stable.
Joined Ground is not about resolution. It is about coexistence — fragments held together without being smoothed over. The series reflects a state of balance where difference remains visible, and where the strength of the work lies in its seams rather than its surface.
